Birtamod Municipality, located in Jhapa District, Province No. 1, which serves as the eastern gateway and a major commercial hub of Nepal, has been rapidly urbanizing. The municipality was first declared on 25th Baishakh 2071 (May 8, 2014), incorporating the former Anarmani and Charpane Village Development Committees (VDCs). Later, as per the provisions of Nepal’s Constitution in Part 5, the municipality was re-declared for the second time on 27th Falgun 2073 (February 9, 2017), after including the former Birtamod Municipality and Garamani VDC.
Birtamod Municipality is located approximately 100 km from Biratnagar, the capital of Province No. 1, and about 18 km from Bhadrapur, the district headquarters of Jhapa. To the north, it borders Arjundhara Municipality, to the east is Mechinagar Municipality, to the south is Haldibari and Bahurdashi Rural Municipality, and to the west is Kankai Municipality.
The municipal office is situated in Birtabazar. The municipality consists of 10 wards, with two electoral constituencies – Constituencies 2 and 3. The total area of the municipality is 78.24 square kilometers, located at latitude 26°63'79'' North and longitude 78°94'59'' East. The total number of households in the municipality is 23,477, and the population is 146,795.
